The foreign exchange (currency or forex or FX) market exists wherever one currency is traded for another. It is by far the largest market in the world, in terms of cash value traded, and includes trading between large banks, central banks, currency speculators, multinational corporations, governments, and other financial markets and institutions. Retail traders (small speculators) are a small part of this market. They may only participate indirectly through brokers or banks and may be targets of forex scams. Market size and liquidity The foreign exchange market is unique because of: its trading volume, the extreme liquidity of the market, the large number of, and variety of, traders in the market, its geographical dispersion, its long trading hours - 24 hours a day (except on weekends). the variety of factors that affect exchange rates, Average daily international foreign exchange trading volume was $1.9 trillion in April 2004 according to the BIS study Triennial Central Bank Survey 2004 $600 billion spot $1,300 billion in derivatives, ie $200 billion in outright forwards $1,000 billion in forex swaps $100 billion in FX options.

Anyone who owns or is thinking about creating a website would be crazy to ignore this. I am happy to say that making money with your site, no matter the topic, has become easier than it's ever been before - and it's 100% legitimate. From AdWords to AdSense Google.com earns most of its revenue by allowing other website owners to advertise on their search result pages. All this is managed through a program they call AdWords. Now you can earn a share of the revenue that Google earns from AdWords by placing these same text ads on your site. In other words, you're helping Google advertise and they pay you a percentage of what they earn. This program is called AdSense. Every website owner should be involved in this. It's just too good of an opportunity to pass up. Even if your site is just for information purposes, you can still participate and make decent money with AdSense -- or at least enough to fund your website. So if you are one of those people that don't like the idea of paying for a site, this is an excellent way to earn your money back and then some. Even if you earned as little as $10 in a month, it would more than likely cover some or all of the costs for your web site. Perhaps you are simply looking for ways to add additional revenue to your website, then it's perfect for that situation too. This program is getting so popular, people are creating websites just to display the ads and profit from Google's AdSense alone. I don't usually like to use the term "easy money" because there really is no such thing. You still have to create your own website and learn how to bring in traffic in order to make good money with this program. I certainly don't want to make it sound like you get something for doing absolutely nothing. There's no such thing. However, I've got to say that AdSense is probably the closest you'll ever come to fast money on the Internet -- especially if you already have a website that gets a good amount of traffic. What's even better...the program is completely free. You can also use it on multiple websites and there is no limit to the amount you can earn.

While the pan is heating, arrange the flour on a large dish. Season the cubed beef with some salt and freshly ground black pepper and then toss in the flour to coat. Shake off the excess flour and add the beef chunks in a single layer to the hot pan, being careful not to over crowd the pan, you might have to work in batches. Thoroughly brown all of the cubes on all sides. Once all the meat has been browned remove it to a plate and reserve. Add the wine to the pan and bring up to a simmer while you scrape the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon being sure to loosen up all those tasty bits. Once the wine has gotten hot add the browned meat, thyme, smashed garlic, orange zest strip, ground cloves, freshly ground black pepper and salt, to taste, bay leaves and beef stock. Bring the mixture up to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer and cook uncovered until the liquids start to thicken, about 15 to 20 minutes. Cover and cook on low heat for 2 1/2 hours. After 2 hours add halved potatoes, sliced carrots, pearl onions and mushrooms, along with a pinch of sugar to balance out the acid from the red wine. Turn the heat up slightly and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes more, until the vegetables and meat are tender. Add the frozen peas during the last minute of cooking. Season with salt and pepper and remove the thyme sprigs. To serve, place the stew in a soup bowl, garnish with parsley, drizzle with olive oil and add a dollop of Horseradish Sour Cream. Right before serving add a slice of Toasted Peasant Bread, half way submerged in the stew. Horseradish Sour Cream: 1 cup sour cream 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish Olive oil Salt and pepper Chives, finely chopped, as garnish Combine sour cream, prepared horseradish and a drizzle of olive oil in a small bowl and mix until thoroughly combined. Season with salt and pepper. Add a dollop of the mixture on top of the stew and garnish with chopped chives. Toasted Peasant Bread: 1 loaf peasant bread, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces Extra-virgin olive oil 4 garlic cloves, halved Chopped parsley leaves Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F. Put a sheet pan in the oven so that it gets good and hot. Place the bread slices on the hot sheet pan. Drizzle the bread with the extra-virgin olive oil bake for 5 minutes, until the bread is nicely toasted. Rub the bread slices with the garlic cloves, and discard garlic. Sprinkle with parsley and serve. Yield: 4 to 6 servings

Wow...earn actual college credit for taking a class that explains how YouTube works. Can someone please take the time to explain the need for something like this? To think that you can earn credit towards a degree by taking a class like this is absolutely ridiculous. Does anyone think otherwise? I quoted the article: (AP) Here's a dream-come-true for Web addicts: college credit for watching YouTube. Pitzer College this fall began offering what may be the first course about the video-sharing site. About 35 students meet in a classroom but work mostly online, where they view YouTube content and post their comments. Class lessons also are posted and students are encouraged to post videos. One class member, for instance, posted a 1:36-minute video of himself juggling. Alexandra Juhasz, a media studies professor at the liberal arts college, said she was "underwhelmed" by the content on YouTube but set up the course, "Learning from YouTube," to explore the role of the popular site. Class members control most of the class content and YouTube watchers from around the world are encouraged to comment, Juhasz said. She hopes the course will raise serious issues about YouTube, such as the role of "corporate-sponsored democratic media expression." YouTube is "a phenomenon that should be studied," student Darren Grose said. "You can learn a lot about American culture and just Internet culture in general." The actual article can be found here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/09/14/ap/strange/main3260845.shtml

While watching television, I noticed a commercial for Vonage. When the commercial was about to end, and it flashed its usual fine print material, I noticed a line that stated "Vonage 911 Dialing service operates differently than traditional 911". Being the curious one, I typed in Vonage 911 in Google and clicked the first result which led me to: http://www.vonage.com/features.php?feature=911 After reading the article, it definitely put me off of ever signing up for Vonage (not that I had intended to in the first place, lol). It seems like a hassle to connect to the emergency service in the beginning. You are required to fill out an address form where your Vonage setup is located (this is understandable) in order for their 911 to know where you are in case of the emergency. This in itself can take several hours after submitting the form (even if it is a one time thing, what if you need 911 during the form submission wait?) If you decide to switch locations, you have to fill out another form with a new address, etc. etc. etc. The most horrific of course, is that in the event of a power outage, or say ISP malfunctioning, etc. your 911 service (besides your regular service) is not reachable at all. Using a landline phone (or cell phone, if you can reach a signal) still gives you the option to dial out in power outages. Even if it may sound silly not to go with Vonage over one little thing such as 911, I find this a highly important factor and definitely don't recommend it.

McDonald's finally discontinued their "limited time" offer of the $0.69 extra large drink here in Southern California. I can't speak for the rest of the country, as I've read that it's actually a permanent thing in some states. I miss that drink, it was the perfect size and of course, the perfect price! Did anyone else catch this offer?

The popular Web site is poised to challenge the major networks with live channels, reports the Guardian: "The plans would enable YouTube's millions of users to chat from their bedrooms, perform music or report on a breaking news story to a worldwide audience in real time. A birthday party or wedding could be broadcast live to family and friends who are unable to attend. The truly committed could start a 24-hour 'lifecast' of their daily activities reminiscent of television's Big Brother."

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles shoppers soon won't hear the question, "Paper or plastic?" at the checkout line. The City Council voted Tuesday to ban plastic shopping bags from stores, beginning July 1, 2010. Shoppers can either bring their own bags or pay 25 cents for a paper bag. The City Council voted Tuesday to ban plastic shopping bags from stores, beginning July 1, 2010. Shoppers can either bring their own bags or pay 25 cents for a paper or biodegradable bag. The council's unanimous vote also puts pressure on the state, which is considering an Assembly bill that would impose bag recycling requirements on stores. City officials said their ban would not be implemented if the state passes the bill and requires at least a 25-cent charge per bag. "We've gotten to a point where we need to act as a city, where we can have real results," said Councilman Ed Reyes, who proposed the bag ban. "We're trying to do it in a way where we can educate and inform the public of what we're doing." Reyes said the ban will minimize cleanup costs for the city and reduce trash that collects in storm drains and the Los Angeles River. The city estimates more than 2 billion plastic bags are used each year in Los Angeles. About 5 percent of plastic bags and 21 percent of paper bags are recycled in California. Three percent of the bag fee will be returned to the retailer, 3 percent will go to the state, and the rest will go back to the city to fund an education campaign. Last year, San Francisco passed the nation's first bag ban, which took effect in November. This is absurd and ridiculous when you think about the need for plastic bags for families that have large households. Money is hard to come by as it is, and to impose more charges just makes it worse for the lower class. By allowing people to bring their own bags inside stores, think of those who will make bags with secret compartments and shoplift, etc. which will then in turn make grocery prices even higher than what they already are. You know, that if they really wanted to, they could find an alternative to this.

Opinions/General/Miscellaenous
Someone sent this to me in an e-mail and I just thought I'd share it with the world as I found it very interesting. NAJEE ALI: An open letter to Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. *Rev Jackson, your vulgar tirade caught on tape by Fox News where you said you wanted to cut Barack Obama's nuts off and accusing him of talking down to Black folks by giving moral lectures at churches is the last straw for me and a growing number of African Americans who are outraged at your comments. There are many Blacks across the nation, myself included, who are appreciative for the work and contributions you have made in your civil rights career. But at this point, you're hurting Black America and Obama. In September 2007 it was clear that you were frustrated by Obama, when you stated in an interview in South Carolina that Obama needs to stop acting white, because you felt he was not engaged in the Jena 6 movement enough to your liking. Rev Jackson your continued verbal attacks on Obama are unwarranted it's as if you're jealous that Obama has eclipsed you and both your campaigns for the Democratic nomination by actually preparing to win it as the 2008 presumptive nominee. For years you have been criticized as an ambulance chaser and opportunist. Many of Dr. King's insiders and aides say that King did not trust you. 40 years ago in Memphis as King lay dying from an assassin's bullet your first thought and action was to smear your shirt with Dr. King's blood. You then proceeded to appear in Chicago the next day on several news programs wearing the same shirt you deliberately smeared with his blood as if you were the heir of King's movement. Obama's recent comments about Black fathers not abandoning their children and accepting moral responsibility in our lives is a lesson you apparently needed to learn when you were younger. If you had, it may not have caused you to cheat on your wife and father a child out of wedlock with a former staffer. Maybe that's what really bothered you about Obama's message to the church that Black fathers should be responsible for their children; you certainly haven't been. Living in Los Angeles I have watched your ten year old daughter Ashley Laverne Jackson grow up. Over the years I have had the pleasure to spend several holidays with your daughter including Christmas, her birthday parties and other milestones in her life. I will never turn my back on Ashley her mom and their family. It's about providing friendship, support and love to them while you have been missing in action. Your daughter has never traveled or taken a trip with you, you have an annual birthday party in Beverly Hills every year where your entire family is welcome but your youngest child has only attended it once. She has had very little contact with her siblings and has never even met her big brother Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr, who apparently doesn't want anything to do with her. And allegedly (I believe it to be true ), he was the one to leak the scandal to the media concerning your affair. Now don't get me wrong, Obama is not above reproach. He is a politician and is fair game to be fairly criticized by you or anyone else. But to personally attack Obama is crossing the line. Obama is not talking down to Black people; he wants you and other dead beat dads to spend time and care for your children properly. The destruction of the Black family and absentee fathers is a major problem in our community. It's a problem that King spoke out and fought against. 40 years after King's murder I can see why King didn't trust you. If you can't and won't sincerely help Obama in this historic run then at least stop attacking him. Listen to Obama's message of being a responsible father and start taking care of your daughter Ashley. Najee Ali www.islamichope.org

Strong quake shakes Southern California By ROBERT JABLON – 26 minutes ago LOS ANGELES (AP) — A strong earthquake shook Southern California on Tuesday, causing buildings to sway and triggering some precautionary evacuations. No immediate damage was reported. The jolt was felt from Los Angeles to San Diego, and slightly in Las Vegas. Preliminary information from the U.S. Geological Survey estimated the quake at magnitude 5.8, centered 29 miles east-southeast of downtown Los Angeles near Chino Hills in San Bernardino County. Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said there were no immediate reports of damage or injury in Los Angeles. San Bernardino County fire dispatch also had no immediate reports of damage. The quake struck at 11:42 a.m. PDT. Buildings swayed in downtown Los Angeles for several seconds. Workers quickly evacuated some office buildings. "It was dramatic. The whole building moved and it lasted for a while," said Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore, who was in the sheriff's suburban Monterey Park headquarters east of Los Angeles. I felt the entire thing. It woke me up out of my sleep. Luckily there have been no reports of any damage or injuries. Very scary situation....

WINTER IS COMING! I love to prepare for the wintertime in terms of the holidays, the overall season changing, and my birthday (it's on December 11th). Summer is just about over, although sometimes in California, a term know as "Indian Summer" can occur. The weather keeps flucuating (one of the perks of California weather) between hot and cold these days. Daylight Savings Time will keep in, which means it will grow darker faster and the sun will rise earlier (oh joy). I just thought I'd share my personal rant about wintertime with the world and see if anyone feels the same way I do, wheter it be about winter or any other season. What is your favorite season and why?
