Highest Sales Tax City In California

Posted by: MindArchr
After coming out of Walgreens, I noticed my receipt read 9.25% sales tax. I had went to McDonald's, and Jiffy Lube, earlier in the day, and noticed the rate to be 9.25% tax when I broke the prices down after I looked over my receipts. I immediately went on the Internet wondering when California had increased its sales tax, and why it wasn't announced on the news. I soon learned that (as quoted from Wikipedia): California has a statewide sales tax of 7.25%, and local supplementary taxes are allowed up to 9.25%. They are charging 9.25% sales tax in the city of South Gate, California (as of October 1st), which now makes it the HIGHEST sales tax city in California! With the economy being in a slump, don't shop in South Gate unless you can absolutely afford to!
